Transportation and warehousing are the two major functions of logistics. Transportation management focuses on planning, optimizing and executing the use of vehicles to move goods between warehouses, retail locations and customers.
Inbound logistics includes the receiving, storage, and inventory control of input materials. Operations are the value-creating activities that transform the inputs into the final product. Outbound logistics are the activities required to get the finished product to the customer, including storage and order fulfillment.
